As it is seen now more and more guys are trying to have a perfect body as it is seen in media. Males feel more confident if they have that perfect body they feel they need to be wanted. Starting as young as seven years old kids have started working out because they have gotten influenced by media. Now I believe that at a younger age your parents are in more control of you, but parents do not have that mindset that their kids are being exposed to that kind of stuff by the media. The idea of having the perfect body has arrived from movies, cartoons, and in some cases family members. Studies have shown that the percentage of dissatisfaction in males has gone from 15% to 45 %( Agliata and Dunn, 2004). The issue of body dissatisfaction clearly seems to be increasing over time. From my experience I do not remember one movie where there is not at least one male with a perfect body image. The perfect body males in movies come out with big chest, handsome, big arms, and a six pack as well.
Even though we see glory and fame the real problem is that 95% of college age males express the dissatisfaction with some of their body parts (Agliata and Dunn,2004). This recent study shows that when males have gone through puberty they still are unhappy with their bodies. This is not just an issue that’s here in little village, but it is an issue going on in the United States. We do know that these types of males are all over because the media is almost in every corner of the world. The media portrays these men as the most attractive because they have the body every woman “desires.” The media does not focus on how bad they can affect the self-esteem of those who do not have that body like the men in the magazines or movies.
